Transcripción de la ficha:

"Doña Josefa de Sardaneta, hermana del primer marqués de Rayas, casó en el poblado abajeño de Marfil en 1721 y tuvo una sola hija. Su padre fue alguacil mayor del Santo Oficio y regidor de la Villa de Santa Fe, Real y Minas de Guanajuato, además de benefactor de la Compañía de Jesús. Fue retratada por un pintor local, sentada y de tres cuartos, junto a un cortinaje rojo; de cerca de setenta años y como una mujer culta. Sostiene un grueso volumen, mientras que sobre la mesa quedan el devocionario con guardas de nácar, una cigarrera o una caja de rapé, y una medalla con la efigie de un santo. Esta obra debió formar parte de las estrategias visuales de la familia de ricos mineros para crear una identidad aristocrática. El estilo del traje, un poco anticuado para la década de los 70, da cuenta de tal búsqueda de arraigo y del decoro de una mujer mayor." (Símbolo y Reino, 2023)
