Summary

[edit]
Description

Posed photos like this one continued a tradition begun when Harvey Wiley retired from the Bureau of Chemistry in 1912. Retiring Commissioners memorialized their last day with a photo taken at their desk. Shown here is Paul B. Dunbar (1944-1951), Walter Campbell’s successor who also played a key role in securing the 1938 Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
