Description
English: On the GC line, three locomotives coupled cross the ECML at Retford.
View westward, towards Worksop and Sheffield, the ex-GN ECML station being off to the right past Retford South Box, which handled this busy flat crossing - replaced 1965 by an underpass. In the foreground is the sharp curve of the lines connecting the station with the ex-GC line towards Gainsborough, Lincoln, Grimsby etc. The engines - no doubt returning to the ex-GC Locomotive Depot from Worksop Sidings, are:- Thompson B1 No. 61212 (built 7/47, withdrawn 7/64); Thompson O1 2-8-0 No. 63773 (built 8/1912 as O4 GC No. 1213, LNER No. 6213, rebuilt 4/46 as No. 3560, withdrawn 10/64 as BR No. 63773;) O4/3 No. 63637 (built 1/18 as WD No. 1722, acquired 5/28 by the LNER as No. 6558, renumbered No. 3637 in 1946, withdrawn as No. 63637 in 12/62).
