Español: La realización del retablo de la capilla de San Pedro de la catedral de Sevilla fue encargada por la marquesa de Malagón, Guiomar Pardo Tavera de la Cerda, que desde 1620 poseía el patronato de esta capilla. Y dicha dama encargó el diseño del retablo al arquitecto Miguel de Zumárraga, que era el cantero y aparejador oficial de la catedral hispalense, la ejecución a Diego López Bueno, y las pinturas que debían adornarlo al célebre pintor Francisco de Zurbarán. El retablo se articula mediante dos cuerpos de tres calles cada uno, junto con un banco y un ático o remate, que contienen siete lienzos con escenas de la vida de San Pedro, una Inmaculada Concepción en el centro, y la imagen del Padre Eterno en el ático. En el banco aparecen representados Cristo y San Pedro caminando sobre las aguas, Cristo entregando las llaves del Cielo a San Pedro y San Pedro curando al paralítico. Las obras centrales del retablo están ocupadas por San Pedro, papa, en el primer cuerpo, y la ya mencionada Inmaculada Concepción en el segundo. Los cuatro lienzos de las calles laterales son ejemplos típicos del estilo de Zurbarán: La visión de San Pedro, San Pedro liberado por el ángel, Quo vadis domine?, y El arrepentimiento de San Pedro. El lienzo del ático del retablo, El Padre Eterno, no es de Zurbarán, sino una copia del siglo XVIII del original. |
