Summary
[edit]DescriptionResidence service drop.JPG |
English: An electrical service drop, where electric power is supplied from overhead power lines to a residence in Mount Vernon, Washington, USA. This provides the 110V/240V "split phase" power standard in North America. The "triplex" cable from the utility pole (left) consists of two lines each carrying 120 volts, and an uninsulated ground cable. The cable provides 120 V power for loads connected between one of the phase cables and ground, and 240 V power to loads connected between the two phase cables. The cable enters a conduit through a weatherhead, and drops down to the electric meter, then passes through the wall of the house to the service panel, where it is connected to the home power wiring. |
