n in charge of parties, 14 rod-men, 4 inspectors, 1 clerk and 1 stenographer. As formerly, the different classes of work have been underthe supervision of division engineers: C. Barton Pratt incharge of construction, David A. Ambrose in charge of pre-liminary work, and Louis V. Eoster in charge of generalofiice work and drafting. The construction work under the department has been ofthe usual varied description, including grading, surfacing,paving, drainage, river and shore work, and stone, concreteand reinforced concrete masonry work. This department has given general inspection to all workdone in the parkways and reservations under permits andlicenses issued by the Commission to cities, towns, corpora-tions and individuals. Xinety-three of these permits havebeen issued, and the total cost of the inspection of the workhas been $635.53. Photographs of the most important pieces of work havebeen taken from time to time by the department, to be keptas records of the progress of the work.
