Fig. XI 420 EDUCATIONAL INVESTIGATION Of the total number but 27,171 records are included in the generaltabulations. The difference—1,307 records—is due to the rejection ofthe records of one entire school,^ the exclusion of records from Eclasses, and of such other records as were found in the tabulations tocontain impossible scores. (For instance, a score of 160 in a test inwhich there were but 120 examples.) The basis for the selection of schools, while largely geographical,was practically a chance selection, as it was made without other knowl-edge of the schools than size, number of children and classes, and type—boys, girls, or mixed. In certain schools, every grade was tested; inothers, only selected grades. The schools chosen and the number ofclasses in each are shown in Table IV, p. 418.
