Description
English: Replica of "Sans Pareil" at the Locomotion Museum A close-up photograph of one of the many engines at Shildon's fabulous railway museum.

Sans Pareil was one of the engines which competed in the Rainhill Trials, held in 1829, to find the best locomotive for use on the Liverpool and Manchester Railway. http://www.resco.co.uk/rainhill/ Other engines of that era used vertical cylinders, see here : http://www.g4fas.net/fmff.html More information about the Locomotion Museum, its location etc, can be seen here http://locomotion.sedgefield.gov.uk/ccm/portal/.
