Summary

[edit]
Description
English: While other towns had experimented with electric street lighting earlier, Taunton was the first town to successfully do so continuously. The first lamps were erected in 1886 and this replica was made 100 years later to celebrate the fact. It initially stood on The Parade in front of the Market House but has since been moved to this site in the Goodland Gardens due to changes in the road layout. The plaque explaining its importance is, however, still on the wall of the Market House!
