[edit]
Description

Allocated identity BAPC149 by the British Aircraft Preservation Council. The S.27 was built in 1910 for private owner Cecil Grace and was used to set a new UK altitude record of 1,180ft on 20th June that year. After Graces’ death in an attempted cross channel flight using ther S.29, the S.27 was sold to Frank McClean and fitted with a Gnome engine. It was then used to train Naval pilots at Eastchurch, later being rebuilt to become the tandem-twin. This replica was built in 1979 and represents the S.27 as it flew at Eastchurch. Seen on display in Hall 1 as part of the ‘The Navy’s Air War 1914-1918’ exhibiton. Fleet Air Arm Museum RNAS Yeovilton, Somerset, UK.
