Summary

[edit]
Description

During World War I, Portuguese personnel were due to form the Portuguese Expeditionary Corps to fight on the Western Front. When this didn’t materialise, they joined existing French units instead and are represented here by this replica SPAD VII which carries different individual markings on each side. The port side is painted as ‘S5721’ the mount of Lt. Alberto Lello Portela who scored three victories whilst flying with Escadrille SPA.124 from La Cheppe in May 1918. Built for the museum by Digital Design LLC, the SPAD had not yet been officially handed over at the time of our visit. Museo do Ar, Sintra, Portugal.
