Summary
[edit]DescriptionRepairing the sea defences - geograph.org.uk - 1119243.jpg |
English: Repairing the sea defences The high cliffs here are not only eroded by wave action but also from the landward side, being undermined by underground springs which can be seen emerging from the cliff face. The soft boulder clay cliffs are slumping, because the spring water is running through and cutting deep grooves into the clay, making it unstable. Sea defences consist of arrangements of boulders, wooden groynes and a revetment. Trees were planted on the cliff face in the hope that their roots might hold together the soil but the trees appear to have been stolen and were not replaced |
