Français : Cette gravure à l'eau-forte est issue d'un recueil gravé par Jacques Lagniet à Paris dans la seconde moitié du XVIIe siècle et portant sur les proverbes. Il s'intitule le Premier Livre des Proverbes et compte une soixantaine de pièces illustrées.
Un homme assis sur un tabouret est en train de recracher un jet d'eau. Il est coiffé d'un chapeau haut surmonté d'une chouette. Il est également entouré de six personnages, dont sur sa gauche un médecin. La scène prend place dans un intérieur domestique. Le sol est figuré : une figure d'esclave git sous les pieds de l'homme assis, tandis que son jet d'eau projette des navires sur des villages éparpillés au sol. Cette gravure est l'image de l'Espagnol colonisateur. La gravure est ponctuée d'un long proverbe : "Espagnol dont la fain nest jamais assouuie / Il uous fault rendre gorge ou bien perdre la uie / Seigne seigne francois ouure bien ceste ueine / Il faut chercher le mal jusques a la racine -- O prodige nouueau quelle estrange matiere / Par ce uomissement du deuant et derriere / Ie ne scaurois plus uoir uos grimasses estranges / Prenes de grace un peu de jus de ces oranges". |
