My Renault 11 (Petrol) Turbo from the 1986 was a fairly quick car, producing 105 BHP from it's 1500cc engine. As it weighed only 915 kg it could go quite quickly, with a 0-60 mph time of in 7.9 s. That was good in the 1980's and still not bad even today. Turbochargers are commonplace now but were rarer in those days. I remember the car's handbook advised that the engine be left idling for 30 seconds before switching off - to allow the turbo to cool down. Not very convenient! However, it's amusing looking back on that. A quick check shows that there are only 4 of these cars still on the road in the UK in 2020. |
