Description |
English: A moss-covered stone wall is nearly hidden by surrounding vegetation. Crater Rim Historic District. Several remnants of retaining walls mark former road alignments of Crater Rim Drive. The walls are mostly hidden by dense vegetation near the current road south of Thurston Lava Tube. Roads were created in the area before NPS management to provide access to and around the crater. As the park improved the road system, they adhered to NPS standards in order to maximize driver experience and minimize intrusion on the landscape.
