IN 1893 i In her testimony today Mrs. Wil-lette told of her poverty at thetime her child was born—May 11,1893. She said the famous oldRussHouse—early-day hotel—held hertrunk for fourteen months becauseshe owed the place rent. She saidFlood, with whom she later becameacquainted, gave her the money topay the rent, but that this was aft-er the child was born. During Mrs. Willettes and Mrs.Fordes narration of events con-nected with the birth of Constance,Judge Buck cleared the courtroomof minors. During the afternoon awoman juror, Mrs. Elsie Dodson ofSouth San Francisco, fainted. Shewas revived and permitted to con-tinue. Mrs. Forde/told of her early stagestruggles in Boston, and of howAbraham Lincoln came to herdressing-room airer an appearance(in Virginia, and congratulatedher on her performance.
