Howden Minster: the remains of the choir elevation

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The choir of Howden Minster was rebuilt in spectacular fashion around 1320. Subsequent abandonment and collapse at the end of the 17th century have left only a ruined shell remaining. The exterior walls remain relatively intact, but the high walls have been almost entirely lost. Only at the east end do fragments of their elevations remain. These indicate a two-storey elevation, with an impressive clerestorey incorporating large traceried windows and a wall passage (with a low quatrefoiled screen). They also confirm that the choir was covered with a quadripartite vault of brick and stone.
