Summary
[edit]DescriptionRemains of the Peebles Triangle railway (geograph 3239706).jpg |
English: Remains of the 'Peebles Triangle' railway This old embankment with a filled-in bridge is part of the Peebles Triangle, a planned link between the Caledonian Railway's station on the S side of the Tweed and the North British station across the river below Ven Law. The line was to split into W-bound and E-bound sides of the triangle to merge with the Peebles to Galashiels line. In practice, it is unlikely that the link was ever used for passenger trains as it was built just to comply with the requirements of the 1861 Act which enabled expansion of the lines from Biggar and to Galashiels operated by two companies in competition. The history is given in some detail in 'History of Peebles 1850 - 1990' by J L Brown and I C Lawson, in Chapter 20 'The Peebles Railways' by R Montgomery. |
