Summary
[edit]DescriptionRemains of lime-kiln - geograph.org.uk - 1622205.jpg |
English: Remains of lime-kiln. This is the seventh of ten former lime-kiln sites that are located along a short section of the Murroch Burn. For an index to pictures of all ten sites, see 1622071
When looking for the site, I approached it from the SW (the far side); from there, the pit seemed rather indistinct, and I could not yet be sure that I had correctly located the ruin. However, when I reached the other side, from which this photo was taken, there could no longer be any doubt; uniquely among the ten sites, this ruined lime-kiln has, on its NE side, a fully exposed section of its original wall, intact to a height of 1.1 metres. For a closer look, see 1622206. The direction of view of both photos is parallel to the steep-sided valley of the Murroch Burn, looking downstream. |
