Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Remains of a Lancaster aircraft and memorial In the foreground, this is a fragment of from an RAF Lancaster propeller hub. There are five moderate sized craters on the side of the mountain here. On September 5th 1943, RAF Bomber Command Lancaster W4929 was on a training mission with 8 crew on board. For reasons that have never been understood, the plane crashed into the mountain side at this location. Little remains of the aircraft's fuselage but large metallic pieces of the aircraft's Rolls Royce Merlin engines and the propeller hubs are still strewn around the area. These parts have been left on the mountainside in remembrance of the dead crew and there's a small plaque nearby.
