[edit]DescriptionRemains of a 14th century cross - plaque - geograph.org.uk - 1065061.jpg |
English: Remains of a 14th century cross - plaque. This plaque accompanies the 14th century cross > 1065047 which was resited in order to mark the location of the last battle fought near here during the Peasant's Revolt, on 22. June 1381. The rebels, headed by John Leicester, a dyer from Norwich, were defeated by Henry Spencer, the warlike Bishop of Norwich. The nearby market town of North Walsham was the centre of this revolt. See > 1027064 for a view of the battlefield. http://www.northwalshamguide.co.uk/north_walsham_history.asp |
