English: Remains of Lydbrook station This remarkably dull photograph shows the remaining platform edging at the site of Lydbrook station, which was opened with the Ross to Monmouth line in 1873 and became a junction in 1875 upon the opening of the Severn & Wye Railway's Lydbrook branch. The station lost its passenger traffic in 1959, but freight trains continued to run to the cable factory here until 1965. Nowadays, there's very little left to see unless you're willing to poke around in the undergrowth and have an unusual ability to get excited by bits of overgrown brickwork! |
