Summary

[edit]
Description
English: 42-67326 was a Lockheed F-5B-1-LO Lightning with the c/n 422-1837. On 5th February 1944 she was being operated by the 13th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron, part of the 7th Photographic Reconnaissance Group under the Eighth Air Force and was based at Mount Farm in Oxfordshire.

At 11:00 First Lieutenant Arthur S.Waldron took the aircraft up for a test flight during which he reported a fire in the cockpit. He jettisoned the canopy but did not bale out and was killed instantly when the aircraft crashed at Elcombe, near Swindon. His body was recovered the next day and was buried with full military honours at the Madingley American War Cemetery near Cambridge. The crash site was excavated by the museum and the remains have been placed on display near the parts of a second F-5 from Mount Farm which crashed within a mile of this site on 6th April 1944.
