Summary

[edit]
Description
English: View eastward from the TAFE pathway across the former railway corridor in Newcastle West, New South Wales, towards the sandstone walls that originally upheld the platforms of the former Honeysuckle railway station. In this view, the northernmost platform's ending is visible; the former railway continuing on towards the former Mortuary and the original freight terminus at what is now the site of Civic railway station. The walls, which date back to 1857, have been mostly buried underneath the modern incarnation of the Newcastle railway line, since the station's demolition in 1936. The walls were unearthed during another demolition operation, this time of the Newcastle railway line in 2014–16. The site was subsequently designated an environmental protection zone, and the New South Wales Office of Environment and Heritage was notified.
