Deutsch: Caracciola-Denkmal in Remagen, 2001 vom Verschönerungsverein und von Daimler Chrysler gestiftet. Der Bildhauer war Gerd Hardy (* 1940) aus Netze-Mühle im Brohltal. Das Denkmal steht vor einer Kurve des Deichwegs, in der Nähe der katholischen Pfarrkirche St. Peter und Paul. 2006 wurde es erstmals von Vandalen beschädigt und die Nase Caracciolas abgeschlagen, 2011 der verchromte Mercedes-Stern gestohlen. Ein 2013 angebrachtes Provisorium wurde nach zwei Tagen ebenfalls entwendet. Daraufhin fertigte Hardy einen Stern aus Basalt, der durch eine Spendensammlung und mit einem Zuschuss der Daimler AG finanziert wurde. – Rudolf Caracciola wurde am 30. Januar 1901 in Remagen geboren; er starb am 28. September 1959 in Kassel. Auf der rechten Säule des Denkmals steht ein Zitat des ehemaligen Mercedes-Rennleiters Alfred Neubauer (1891–1980): „Meiner Meinung nach ist von allen Fahrern der ganzen Welt Rudolf Caracciola der Größte gewesen.“ |
