Description

As we approached the Holy Trinity Cathedral, the number of establishments displaying religious symbols increased.

This piece particularly appealed to me. The figure, who I assume is Jesus, looks quite Elizabethan here.

The lilies that flank Jesus are important symbols in Christianity, to wit:

"Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these." Luke 12:27

"And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin." Matthew 6:28

Hmm . . . I suppose if I though about those pieces of scripture long enough, I might feel better about the state of my 401(k) and/or take up naturism as a way of life.

Perhaps someone with a command of Amharic will be kind enough to translate the text at the bottom of the relief.
