Description

Demographics of religion in Han China, and in detail in Shanghai, Liaoning, Henan, Gansu and Guangdong, according to the CFPS survey conducted in 2012, published in March 2014.

The survey has involved households in 25 Han Chinese provinces, representing 95% of the total population of China, excluding the autonomous regions of Hong Kong and Macau, Tibet, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Qinghai, Ningxia and Hainan.

Only a small percentage of people has identified as "Taoist", because the name "Taoist" in China traditionally refers just to the priests of Taoism, and not to the believers, who fall within the large majority of "non religious" or participants to traditional folk religions (worship of gods and ancestors).
