Description
English: Location: Camp Mountain, Queensland, Australia

Date: 5 May 1947
Description: This railway smash occurred near Camp Mountain on Monday, 5 May 1947. The picnic train, organised by the Customs & Excise department's social club, left Brisbane with nearly 500 women and children at 8:55 am. At 9:55 am the leading carriage jumped the rail in a cutting a few miles on the Brisbane side of Closeburn, where the picnic was to have been held. The smash, 13 and a half miles from Central Station, Brisbane, killed 15 and injured 30. It was Queensland's worst rail disaster. An emergency rescue gang was formed within a few minutes from local farmers and shopkeepers.
