| Description |
The Jubilee Palace, now called the National Place, was the site of the dethronement of Emperor Haile Selassie in September 1974. Ten low ranking military officers appeared before the Emperor in the palace library and read him a statement prepared by the Derg officially removing him from the throne. I nearly got arrested taking this photo of the palace gates! The palace is currently the home of the president and with a general election looming security was a priority. I was attracted by the interesting relief of Ethiopian soldiers. Still not sure about the grass growing out the top though. |
