These Ethiopian Christian Orthodox religious objects are on display in the Iqa-bet, a two-story stone building next to the Church of Abba Afse in Yeha, Tigray Region, northern Ethiopia. Why the poetic title, "Relic Dream Vision"? Well, isn't the image dreamlike - shadowy, vague, mysterious and intriguing? I think so. It's like a dream of lost treasures. Two elaborate processional crosses dominate the left side of the image. An old hand cross is on the right side of the photo, backed by an ornately-embroidered religious garment, probably a robe. On a more prosaic note, I shot the photo in natural light at high ISO, resulting in a very noisy image. If the photo is dreamy, it's because my noise-reduction software made it so. I think of the image as resembling an acrylic painting more than a photo. But it has enough redeeming qualities to merit inclusion in the collection - for now, anyway. |
