Deutsch: Die Illustration zeigt die Ostflanke des von mir rekonstruierten römischen Palastes der so genannten Grotte di Catullo. Im hier zu sehenden südöstlichen Teil ruht das monumentale Gebäude auf der hohen Steilküste, die vermutlich schon in der Antike von wild wucherndem Gestrüpp bewachsen war. Hinter der über 140 m langen Ostterrasse schloss sich die doppelschiffige Osthalle an. Der äußere Säulenring besaß korinthische Säulen, der innere wohl eine ionische Ordnung. Von diesem Blickwinkel aus gut zu erkennen ist die Lage der äußeren Ringhallen vor den inneren Kopfbauten, deren Obergeschoss über die Hallendächer hinaus geragt haben dürfte. Rechts im Hintergrund öffnet sich die Bucht von Peschiera del Garda zum offenen See zwischen den Gipfeln des Rocca di Manerba und des Punta San Vigilio.
English: The illustration shows the eastern flank of the Roman palace of the so-called Grotte di Catullo, which I reconstructed. In the southeastern part, which can be seen here, the monumental building rests on the high cliff, which was probably already overgrown by wildly proliferating scrub in antiquity. Behind the more than 140 m long eastern terrace, the double-bayed eastern hall adjoined. The outer column ring had Corinthian columns, the inner one probably an Ionic order. From this angle, the position of the outer ring halls in front of the inner head buildings, whose upper storey may have overhung the hall roofs, is clearly visible. In the right background, the bay of Peschiera del Garda opens to the open lake between the peaks of Rocca di Manerba and Punta San Vigilio.
Italiano: L'illustrazione mostra il fianco orientale del palazzo romano che ho ricostruito nelle cosiddette Grotte di Catullo. Nella parte sud-orientale, che si può vedere qui, l'edificio monumentale poggia sull'alta rupe, che probabilmente già nell'antichità era invasa da una vegetazione selvaggia. Dietro la terrazza orientale, lunga oltre 140 metri, si trovava la sala orientale a doppia navata. L'anello esterno di colonne era di ordine corinzio, quello interno probabilmente di ordine ionico. Da questa angolazione è ben visibile la posizione delle sale esterne di fronte agli edifici interni di testa, il cui piano superiore potrebbe essersi esteso oltre i tetti delle sale. Sullo sfondo, a destra, la baia di Peschiera del Garda si apre sul lago aperto tra le cime della Rocca di Manerba e della Punta San Vigilio. |
