Le vase de droite, « Le Chasselas de Fontainebleau« , a été acheté par Henry Vasnier lors de l’Exposition universelle de 1900. Il s’agit d’un calice au pied creux, orné de grains de raisin jauneet violet gravés, clin d’œil à l’environnement du collectionneur pour qui l’objet a vraisemblablement été réalisé. Le vase de gauche est une pure merveille : « Les Globes, fruits vermeils des divines ramées« , dit « vase Victor Hugo », a été présenté par son créateur à l’occasion de l’Exposition universelle de 1900, où Henry Vasnier en fait l’acquisition. Son surnom lui vient de ce qu’on peut y lire un extrait du poème « À celle qui est restée en France » du livre VI des Contemplations de Victor Hugo. La technique utilisée ici par Gallé est innovante et délicate:une application à la surface de masse de verre coloré et de sculpture en relief. Les couleurs évoquent la chaleur nécessaire au mûrissement des grappes, avec un important emploi de paillons d’or qui tranchent sur le vert acide des grains avant les bienfaits du soleil. |
