D, THE BEGION OF THE ARM. 359 median nerve, at the outer side of the axillary artery. It pierces thecoraco-brachialis muscle and passes obliquely to the septum between thebiceps and braehialis anticus muscles. Above the outer side of the elbowthe nerve pierces the deep fascia between the tendon of the biceps andsupinator longus muscles, and becomes subcutaneous beneath the mediancephalic vein (Plate 46, Fig. 1, No. 9). It supplies branches to thecoraco-brachialis, the coracoid head of the biceps, and the braehialis an-ticus muscles. This nerve is sometimes derived from the median nerve,or, if it is absent, the median nerve distributes the branches ordinarilysupplied by it,—the whole of the outer cord of the brachial plexus, insuch instances, contributing to the formation of the median.
