Summary
[edit]DescriptionReedham station photo-survey (22) - geograph.org.uk - 1480883.jpg |
English: Reedham station photo-survey (22) Replacement switch-and-crossing ('points') track components awaiting installation. The two 'x' shaped items between the running rails of the siding are crossing nose and wing rail assemblies: the 'v' shaped components to the left of the siding are switches (or 'point blades'). Note, too, the 'catch point' on the siding - this is a safety device and in the photo is set to derail vehicles making an authorised approach to the main through line.
This view is looking in the 'up' (east) direction towards the road bridge spanning Reedham station on the ex-Great Eastern Rly route from Norwich to Lowestoft. Reedham station has two platforms; one for up (Norwich-bound) trains and one for down (Yarmouth and Lowestoft) trains. The majority of passenger services are operated by National Express. Reedham Junction is 300 yards east behind the photographer. At the junction, a single track route branches northeast to Yarmouth and the double track route continues southeast to Lowestoft. |
