Redondo Salt Works, California, ca.1895-1910
Photograph (ca.1895-1910) of the Redondo Salt Works, California, owned by Fred Mellus, son of Henry Mellus. Looking northeast over evaporation pools, vats and buildings of the salt works at Redondo Beach. Distant vista is of vacant land on hills of Hermosa Beach. The brine of Lake Salinas (as the pond was called) was of unusual composition. The extracted salt was brought to Los Angeles and prepared for market at the works on Alameda Street near Aliso Street (?).
