Summary
[edit]DescriptionRedgorton parish kirk - geograph.org.uk - 400584.jpg |
English: Redgorton parish kirk The church is now redundant and at the time the photograph was taken was being converted into flats. The small building to the right is an early 19th century watch house built as a shelter for men guarding newly buried corpses against grave-robbers. Stolen bodies were sold to anatomy schools in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow. The graveyard also contains a morthouse, an immensely strong building in which the newly dead were kept under lock and key until too corrupt to be of interest to the anatomists. |
