Summary
[edit]DescriptionRedesigned section of beach - geograph.org.uk - 775626.jpg |
English: Redesigned section of beach At the top of the short service road that leads to the gas terminal sand was removed from behind the revetments in order to reinforce the base of the cliffs in front of the gas terminal, resulting in high sand levels around the revetments and much depleted levels behind. The view is towards the Bacton gas terminal, above the beach in mid-distance.
A variety of sea defences have been erected along the beach north of Bacton; the defences are particularly extensive nearing the Bacton gas terminal. But despite all these measures the sea is regularly breaching the breakwaters, groynes, revetments and steel sheet pilings. Recently rocks were piled in front of the cliff, behind the breakwater, in an effort to protect the eroding cliff face but as examples in other areas have shown, heavy rocks tend to sink into the sand with time and then offer little protection. An effort has also been made to grass over the cliffs above, the surface being held in place by fine wire netting, giving the grass a better chance to establish itself. |
