Summary

[edit]
Description How can you think of Australia and not think of the kangaroo? It was mid day, and most of the kangaroos were at the far end, except this chap who was poking around near the bunch of greens suspended above him: his lunch that day. The red kangaroo (Macropus rufus) is the largest of all kangaroos, the largest mammal native to Australia, and the largest extant marsupial. It is found across mainland Australia, avoiding only the more fertile areas in the south, the east coast, and the northern rainforests. This species is a very large kangaroo with long, pointed ears and a squared-off muzzle. The red kangaroo's legs work much like a rubber band. The males can leap over 9 m (30 ft) in one leap.
