Summary
[edit]DescriptionRed Squirrel - geograph.org.uk - 699632.jpg |
English: Red Squirrel A beautiful native red squirrel snoozing in Gosforth Park, where the last surviving urban population in England can be found. Reds are endangered mainly because of the invasive north American grey squirrel brought into England in the late 1870's. The larger grey out-competes reds for food and habitat and carries squirrelpox virus which is harmless to them but deadly for our poor reds who die a slow and painful death.
