| Description |
English: Red Lion pub, Avebury, Wiltshire Olde Worlde-looking pub that is very popular with the motorbiking fraternity (there was a bunch of them out of shot in the car park). Of interest in this image is a stone marker installed by one of the Keiller marmalade dynasty in the earlier part of the 20th century. The Keiller in question bought Avebury in those years and did a lot of work to restore the ancient site. Where the original stones were missing he placed these markers where he thought they would have been. Sadly, Keiller burned through his money on Avebury and other things faster than a WAG in a frock shop and now Avebury is owned by the National Trust. |
