English: Cross section of a water-jacket blast furnace designed for the smelting of non-ferrous metals.
Text appearing in the book Plates No. 81 and 82 illustrates our rectangular style of Water Jacket Smelting Furnace. The jackets are made of the best firebox flanged steel in four sections and are constructed in such a manner that no rivets are exposed to the heat. Hand-holes are provided for removing any sediment that may collect, and are furnished with plates and crabs. A boiler or cast iron foundation and curb forms the base. This is to prevent any loss in case the inside crucible should crack or have a tendency to leak. PLATE No. 82. SECTION THROUGH WATER JACKET FURNACE. manner that they can quickly be removed and returned to position. Above the water jackets is a heavy cast iron deck-plate upon which the superstructure of the furnace rests. This plate is supported by I beams and four substantial cast iron columns. The brick work is securely bound by means of angle iron corner binders and tierods. A suitable stack with nozzle for dust flue connection is included, also damper for same. |
