Description

Soldiers, men, women, and children gather to watch Noel Webb make a speech at Keith, a small farming town in South Australia. The Englsih flag is being flown. During World War I, in 1915, Prime Minister Billy Hughes promised Britain an extra 50,000 reinforcements. The South Australia’n share was allocated to be 5,600 men. The State War Council and the South Australian Railways responded by dispatching recruiting trains twice to various parts of the state, first in March 1916 and then in April 1916.
