eantime, the Very Eev. Dr. Charteris of Edinburghhad been communicated with, and had secured for us theservices of a probationer, the Eev. David John Moir Porteous, the son of a distinguished minister of the Free Church, theEev. Dr. Moir Porteous, who had just finished his theologicalstudies, having also graduated M.A. and B.D. at EdinburghUniversity. Mr. Porteous arrived at the end of June 1890. Hereceived a very cordial welcome from the congregation, andexpressed a desire to be placed in harness without delay.(We may mention here that the assistants salary wasarranged at £300 a year if engaged for two years, and £250if only for one year, with, in each case, outward and returnpassages paid by the congregation.) We have in the City Sun-day School, 152 children ; in Barracas, 215 ; in Quilmes, 56 ; inBelgrano, 53; and in San Martin, 37. Total 513. Some of these children at the suburban stations belong tothe Anglican and Methodist Churches, but we may fairly claim400 of them as our very own. After labouring for two years in Buenos Aires, Mr.Porteous returned to Scotland. A handsome presentationand address were made to him before leaving. Mr. Porteoustwo years after his arrival home was ordained to the veryextensive parish of Mid-Calder, in the Presbytery ofEdinburgh. The Eev. W. Lyall Wilson, M.A., another probationerfrom Edinburgh, succeeded Mr. Porteous as assistant,
