Instrumental in found-ing the Plainfield Public Library and Reading Room in1880, the second to be founded in the State of NewJersey, he was its President imtil his death; was promoterand first President of the Organized Aid Association ofPlainfield and North Plainfield; was also one of theearly Trustees of the Muhlenberg Hospital; Presidentof the Music Hall Association, and President of theAnti-Racetrack Association of New Jersey. Colonel Tyler married on December 29, 1869, ElizaMargaret Schroeder, of New Milford, Conn., a womanof rare beauty of person and character, with whom helived most happily until her death, only nine monthsbefore his own. She was the daughter of Rev. JohnFrederick Schroeder, D.D., of Trinity Parish, New YorkCity, from 1823 to 1839, who won for himself a reputa-tion of being one of the most learned and able preachersin New York City. Mrs. Tylers grandfather wasElijah Boardman, a Revolutionary soldier and one ofthe early United States Senators from Connecticut.Colonel Tylers sons William S. and Cornelius B. Tylerare both members of the New York Bar. Colonel Tyler died suddenly July 2, 1907, in thePresbyterian Hospital, New York, three weeks afteran operation from which he was supposed to haverecovered.
