Miss Alice Longfellow,
Dear Friend,
I am very glad to have the pleasure of writing to you, to thank you for your kindness, and the interest that you have taken in me. I alway [sic] feel glad when I think that there is some one that is interested in me, and often wish that I could do something in return for your kindness.
The rest of last term was pleasantly spent by me. When the weather began to get warm it was very pleasant to go out in the morning breeze. The only that made me feel sad was when school closed to see so many of the students leaving. It was very [p. 2] lonely here for a few days, but every thing was cheerful again after a little while.
I spent my summer here at Hampton, and enjoyed it very much. I waited in the students dinning room, and worked two after in each week in the students laundry. I was very glad when the time came for the old and new students to come.
I have told you about my vacation, but now I guess you would like to know something about this term and my studies. I am very sorry to say, but I had to go over my junior studies again this term. I did not take it hard because I thought it was best for me. School opened October 1st 1889. I went to school the first day [p. 3] it opened, but did not have any lessons. my studies are not hard to me this term as they were last. I am trying to make the best use of my time my work this term help me a great deal towards paying my schooling.
I work one day in every week and wash dishes in the students dinning room. My work is not hard to me at all. I am getting along very well I think in both my work and studies.
As my time is short and I haven't any more to tell you, I will thank you again for your kindness toward me
I still remain,
Your gratefully
Rebecca Jones.
