Summary
[edit]DescriptionReading (General) geograph-2651713-by-Ben-Brooksbank.jpg |
English: Birkenhead - Hastings and Margate express leaving Reading (General) View westward, towards the West (and North): ex-GW main lines from Paddington, connecting from the SR at Reading East Junction. The 07.40 from Birkenhead (Woodside) via Birmingham (Snow Hill) and Oxford has just been taken over by a SR locomotive for the next stretch to Redhill, where it will be reversed and divided into the Hastings portion (arriving 16.52 after reversing at Brighton and Eastbourne!) and the Margate portion (arriving 17.06 via Tonbridge, Ashford, Canterbury and Ramsgate); note the SR stock. The locomotive is Maunsell U class No. 31804 (built 9/26 as class K 2-6-4T No. A804 'River Tamar', rebuilt as a 2-6-0 6/28, withdrawn 6/64). |
