| Description | After huffing and puffing and embarrassing myself several times with my all too frequent rest stops to catch my breath and give some rest to my aching muscles, we have finally reached the top of the Phangrei Hill. What we see is this little lake at the end of what turned out to be a long, strenuous climb up the steep, steep mountain of Phangrei neat Ukhrul in Manipur in NE India. And although I was out of breath and completely out of steam, members from my host family, including the matriarch of the family who is much older than me, made short work of the climb. The younger ones- even those in their late 30ss- had reached up and were actually playing games up there or wandering off to far corners of the mountain top! Although technically this is a seasonal lake, I understand it has water in it most of the time but is best in winter. Frankly, with all the troubles I had climbing up here- in January, and hence winter- I can't imagine attempting this in the height of summer. On the western direction of the lake is the neighbouring country of Burma (Myanmar)- yes, Manipur is bordered by Burma on one side. I'm not sure West as seen from which side of the lake - I did not know of this at the time of my visit anyway- so I will not attempt to tell you which side Burma lies.
