Ray B. White, Pillar of Fire Church Bishop, Dies at 54. Zarephath, New Jersey; November 6, 1946. Ray Bridwell White, younger son of the founder of the Pillar of Fire Church, the late Bishop Alma White, died at his home here yesterday afternoon. He was 54 years old. Dr. White was born in Mt. Morrison, Colorado, on August 24, 1892, when his father was a Methodist pastor on a mountain circuit. He was afflicted in infancy when physicians despaired of his life, was never robust but leaves a record of remarkable activity, and achievement in literary and ministerial pursuits. At the age of 12 he began as a boy preacher, assisting his parents in mission work in Colorado and adjoining states. Poor eyesight made early study difficult, but his hunger for learning was insatiable. Mr. White went to England and Wales with his brother when his parents and others were engaged in an evangelistic campaign in London. He assisted in the establishment of the Pillar of Fire Church society in Great Britain and made some time in France and Germany and went with his mother and a party to Egypt and Palestine in 1936. In 1914 Mr. White entered Columbia University, graduating with the degree of Bachelor of Arts, in 1917. During his college career he wrote constantly for periodicals of the church, pre pared his first volume of sermons, "The King's Message," published in 1916, and also compiled the Discipline of the Pillar of Fire Church. Graduate of Princeton. Mr. White was instrumental, in 1918, in reorganizing the Zarephath Bible Institute, where he served as an instructor and received vocal instruction in New York. In 1931 he received the degree of Master of Arts, at Princeton University, having previously published a second vol ume of sermons, "A Challenge from the Pulpit." In 1928 the degree of Doctor of Divinity was conferred upon him by Alma White College which he had helped, with his mother, brother, and others to found in 1921. He assisted his mother in the establishment of Belleview college in Denver, of which for many years he was the president. In 1927 he negotiated for the purchase of a 15 watt radio station In Denver which has operated continuously since March, 1928. He also helped to establish radio station WAWZ at Zarephath. For many years Mr. White broadcast as a singer, raconteur, musician, lecturer, and as preacher of the gospel. Dr. White wrote and published many poems and hymns. Among other books from his pen are "The Legend of Manitousa." "Pulpit and Pen," and "The Trail of the Desert Sun." His latest published work is "The False Christ of Communism and the Social Gospel." Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Grace E. White, one brother, Bishop Arthur K. White, president of the Pillar of Fire Church. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the church auditorium, Zarephath, with interment planned In Denver, where he is to be buried beside his mother, who died on June 26.
