Summary

[edit]
Description Opened in 1875 to carry Hematite Ore to the coast the line runs from Ravenglass to the Cumbrian Railway near Boot. Declining ore availability and with few passengers the line closed in 1913. It was reopened and re-gauged from 2 feet to 15 inches in was 1915. It was used mainly as a passenger service under the new ownership but also shipped some granite for the local quarry. The business lasted until the early 1960's when the line was sold into preservation. "River Esk" was built in 1923
