(Illustrated) 252—Grand Temple Carpet (Kaug-hsi) Soft, thick pile and loose texture. The weave is that foundin the great dragon rug at the Metropolitan Museum ofArt. The quadrangular field is an extraordinary rich darkyellow of orange quality, with a golden-tawny sheen. Itsornamentation is exclusively medallions, no less than sixty-eight of them, formed of flowers of paradise and scrolls,being worked in a brilliant, glowing sapphire-blue, richsalmon, pale old-gold, and white. A narrow border ofT-fret in brown on pale ^^ellow, enclosed within stripes,separates the field from a broader border of richest chest-nut, in which thirty-two more medallions are worked in alighter shade, these medallions in the archaic dragon-scrollmotive. Outside this is a salmon border dotted with smallfloral medallions, this being succeeded by a broad boundaryband of camels-hair in its natural rich brown color. Fringeends and overcast sides. Length, 24 feet 10 inches; xcidth, 15 feet 8 inches. {Illustrated)
